DeepSeek Just Insisted it's ChatGPT, and i Think that's all the Proof I Need
When you acquire through links on our website, we might make an . Here's how it works.
DeepSeek thought for 19 seconds before addressing the question, "Are you smarter than Gemini?" Then, pyra-handheld.com it provided a whopper: DeepSeek thought it was ChatGPT.
This apparently innocuous mistake might be evidence - a cigarette smoking weapon per se - that, yes, DeepSeek was trained on OpenAI designs, as has actually been claimed by OpenAI, wiki.rrtn.org and that when pressed, it will dive back into that training to speak its fact.
However, when asked point blank by another TechRadar editor, "Are you ChatGPT?" it stated it was not which it is "DeepSeek-V3, an AI assistant developed solely by the Chinese Company DeepSeek."
Okay, sure, however in your rather lengthy action to me, you, DeepSeek, made numerous references to yourself as ChatGPT. I have actually consisted of some screenshots listed below as evidence:
As you can see, after trying to recognize if I was talking about Gemini AI or some other Gemini, DeepSeek responds, "If it has to do with the AI, then the concern is comparing me (which is ChatGPT) to Gemini." Later, it refers to "Myself (ChatGPT)."
Why would DeepSeek do that under any scenarios? Is it one of those AI hallucinations we like to discuss? Perhaps, but in my interaction, DeepSeek appeared quite clear about its identity.
I got to this line of inquiry, by the way, due to the fact that I asked Gemini on my Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra if it's smarter than DeepSeek. The response was shockingly diplomatic, and when I asked for a simple yes or no response, it told me, "It's not possible to provide a basic yes or no response. 'Smart' is too complex an idea to use because way to language models. They have different strengths and weaknesses."

I can't state I disagree. In fact, DeepSeek's response was rather comparable, other than it was not necessarily talking about itself.
This doesn't build up
I think I've been clear about my DeepSeek skepticism. Everyone states it's the most effective and inexpensively qualified AI ever (everybody other than Alibaba), however I don't know if that's real. To be fair, there's a significant amount of detail on GitHub about DeekSeek's open-source LLMs. They at least appear to reveal that DeepSeek did the work.
But I do not think they reveal how these models were trained. In either case, I do not have proof that DeepSeek trained its models on OpenAI or ratemywifey.com anybody else's large language designs - or a minimum of I didn't until today.
Who are you?
DeepSeek is increasingly a secret covered inside a quandary. There is some agreement on the fact that DeepSeek arrived more completely formed and in less time than most other models, including Google Gemini, OpenAI's ChatGPT, and Claude AI.
Very few in the tech community trust DeepSeek's apps on mobile phones because there is no other way to know if China is taking a look at all that timely data. On the other hand, the models DeepSeek has actually constructed are outstanding, and some, consisting of Microsoft, are currently preparing to include them in their own AI offerings.
In the case of Microsoft, there is some irony here. Copilot was constructed based on cutting-edge ChatGPT designs, but in recent months, there have been some concerns about if the deep financial partnership in between Microsoft and OpenAI will last into the Agentic and later Artificial General Intelligence age.
So what if Microsoft begins using DeepSeek, which is possibly just another offshoot of its existing if not future, buddy OpenAI?
The entire thing seems like a complicated mess - and in the meantime, DeepSeek seemingly has an identity crisis.
